Wine really comes into its own in this season, it seems the perfect drink with leisurely eating, and it can be adapted to suit both the climate and the styles of food on offer in the summer season.
So here's our suggestions for light reds, crisp whites, and sparklers for those celebrations.
We all know that room temperature can mean many things, it certainly doesn't mean central heating in the middle of winter temperature!
Wines such as Beaujolais and Pinot Noir will do well if they are just a little cooler, like these from our cellar.
This is a classic Beaujolais, very fresh and delicate. It will go extremely well with those dried meat and cheese platters, perfect for this time of year.
Described as having aromas of crushed strawberries and a puff of lilac perfume...ahh we feel better already!
We can spot really made, amazing value for money Pinot when we see it. This one just happens to be from North Italy.
It's a lovely ruby colour and a delight as a table wine, it is described as dry and smooth with a little fruitiness.
From lunchtime to suppertime it's really such a versatile thing!
This is a classy Chardonnay, which seems perfect for the season. With flinty minerality nutty and toasty notes, it is intense yet delicate right through to the finish. It's also a great looking bottle and a firm favourite with us.
Romania is a new wine growing area to us but we were delighted with this Sauvignon Blanc and it's great value too. It has all that you would expect from a crisp, quality Sauvignon, passion fruit, tangerine and gooseberry flavours with a lovely alive mouthfeel and medium body.Delicious wine.
Weddings, anniversaries, exam success (or failure!) birthdays...lots of opportunities for a get together in the summer, and sparkling wines are a must.
Thankfully with the plethora of affordable, quality brands that you can offer, those who want to quaff bubbles as an everyday item need not feel too guilty!
This is a great value bottle and does consistently well throughout the year, and also comes in single serves. It is described as a deliciously light and fruity Prosecco with hints of apple and peach on the nose and a fresh, softly sparkling palate with characters of soft, ripe stone fruits.
Prosecco has clearly stolen a march on Cava, but really there are equally delicious drinks to be tasted and the Mas Macia is a good example. Described as fresh and creamy, full of complex flavours of apples and stone fruits with herbal notes and some nutty, yeasty notes from time on the lees. Good acidity and a long, savoury finish.
