We've also been busy identifying the latest Wine trends - and think that 2023 will be a stellar year for all things Rosé, Sparkling and more.

Growth in demand from the Wine 'Explorer'

During lockdown, customers found plenty of new ways to explore the wine aisle. We had more time to experiment with different grapes and flavours as customers' thirst to learn grew exponentially. We now have customers who want to know where their wine is from, how it's made and what's new in the world of wine.
That's why it's vital to dip into the massive growth in demand for 'indigenous' grape varieties: grapes that are native to a particular region and express themselves differently from those cultivated elsewhere. From our latest Carricante from Sicily to an exciting chillable red Zweigelt from Lake Neusiedl in Austria, make sure you have a contemporary selection to keep customers interested and exploring.

Rosé, Rosé, Rosé Trading up and premiumisation

Creating a distinct wine list encourages engagement, which leads to much greater consumer confidence and a willingness to trade up. In a relatively unbranded marketplace, wine
sales are a unique proposition that benefit greatly from staff knowledge, training and a true range of options.
With this in mind, we've taken on our biggest refresh in South Africa to date. We've moved from nine entry-level, single varietals (think Chardonnay, Cabernet etc), to an exciting range of Swartland blends that offer an improved picture of their local terroir which is perfectly suited to 'Rhone' varietals.
Working side by side with Riebeek's boutique cellar, we've crafted a range of Rhone blends at various by-the-glass prices, that would be as much at home in a rural pub garden as a premium dining restaurant. Supremely elegant, these wines are incredibly food-friendly. The key is to let your customers discover new favourites and keep them coming back for more!

Sparkling... a reason to Celebrate!

One category that is absolutely buoyant is sparkling wine, with fizz sales continuing to outperform still wine, it is important to have options that appeal to a wide range of people. Unfortunately, Champagne remains in short supply due to lower-yielding harvests, but that's a great excuse to try something new.
Burgundian Cremant is a wine made in the exactly the same style as Champagne, making it the perfect alternative. Or if you're looking for something even closer to home, check out of our English Sparkling additions from Balfour and Court Garden. Balfour's Leslie's Reserve Rose in particular bursts with with Kentish raspberries and wild strawberries.
Ensure you are armed and ready for a busy summer ahead with bubbles by the glass.

There is lots going on for Wine at Nectar - from fine dining to Christmas parties, let us help you with your choices, as we always say, drink wine - it isn't good to bottle it up!
