Colcombe House Cider is here!

Published: 18 Dec 2018

Colcombe House is a former Victorian fishing lodge, located in a secluded position on the banks of the River Wye. Just three miles downstream from Hereford Cathedral, accessed by a long private drive, it has retained a certain unique aura, given its location and the utter peace and tranquility that it immediately conveys to any wayward visitor.

Kier Rogers is the third generation of the Rogers farming family that resides at Colcombe House. Kier learned only a few years ago of its recent history and connection with the River Wye.

"Grandfather moved here to the area just after the great depression in 1927. He started grazing strong cattle across the Herefordshire floodplains, but it was only in the late autumn of 1961 that the opportunity to acquire Colcombe House arose. Through his livestock contacts and fishing circles, and their subsequent discussions, my grandfather secured the purchase of this wonderful house in the spring of 1963.

I feel passionately about the heritage of my home, and believe that this period of both splendour and the simple pleasures of the uncomplicated lifestyle should be preserved and celebrated. Hence Colcombe House Food and Drink was born out of these desires and values."

All Colcombe House cider is made from apples grown in orchards that surround Colcombe House. They use honey bees for pollenation which has proven to be very successful and feed the trees with organic seaweed to help encourage growth and minimise stress.

Colcombe House New Catch is refreshingly smooth, medium bodied, premium apple cider, whilst their Willie Gunn cloudy cider is authentic traditional still cider that is full bodied and characterful.
