A Celebration of the 'Returned Soldiers Settlement Act'

Published: 04 Jun 2019

Originating in France, the chardonnay grape is known for its versatility, and for being a long-standing favourite of Australia.

Victoria, Australia, has some 20 plus wine regions to discover, producing some of Australia's most consistent top wines.

Soldier's Block, produced by Boutinot, is a celebration of the 'Returned Soldiers Settlement Act' of 1915, when returning Australian soldiers were rewarded with 'blocks' of land, which led to the planting of vineyards still used today.

The grapes for this example were picked earlier than usual to ensure freshness in the wine. Around 15% of the grapes were sourced from the cooler, sea breeze influenced Langhorne Creek area. This portion is barrel-aged in French medium toast casks to obtain a more complex, textural and weighty style of wine.

This vibrant chardonnay exhibits fruit lifted character, and is perfectly suited for full-flavoured fish.
