Michael, our Beer and Ciders buyer's pick of the month is the range from Salcombe Brewery.
For over 30 years, John Tiner and his wife Gerry had been spending part of their holidays in the South Hams. Here John developed a passion for one beer in particular, Shingle Bay. In 2011 John was told that Quercus, the brewery that produced the beer, was set to close, and the only way to save the beer was to buy the brewery...so he did!
Having run Quercus for 5 years, John and Gerry decided to pursue their dreams of creating a quality eco-friendly brewery that produced a range of beers that met their vision and values, setting up Salcombe Brewery. Not only are they SALSA Plus Beer accredited, a standard that less than 10% breweries currently hold, but they help to give back to the community and environment; they employ local staff and any spent malts and hops are given to local farmers and gardeners for feed.
Salcombe Brewery also support the RNLI and the Seahorse Trust, who help to protect native seahorses by cleaning up the coast.
