Grape info: Spain’s most planted red variety, famous for its role in the blends of Rioja. Tempranillo produces firmly tannic wines with notes of leather, tobacco, spice and sometimes strawberries.
About: Spain’s most internationally famous wine region is renowned for creating quality wines with exceptional ageing ability. It lies in northern Spain, by the side of the River Ebro from which the region’s name is derived. The variety of its soils, together with the combination of modern and traditional growing practices allow winemakers to produce a wide range of wines that exhibit different personalities.
Aged for 24 months in American oak barrels and a further 36 months in bottle.
Tasting note: Intense colour with subtle aromas of toasted wood and cocoa along with sweet spices and hints of menthol. Tobacco, leather and nutmeg on the palate mingled with notes of underbrush and mushroom. Medium bodied with well-integrated tannins and a long finish.
