Grape info: Spain’s most planted red variety, famous for its role in the blends of Rioja. Tempranillo produces markedly tannic wines with notes of leather, tobacco, spice and sometimes strawberries. Unusually for Spanish reds, it doesn’t produce explosive levels of alcohol and tends towards a lower acidity.
About: Bodegas Faustino Rivero Ulecia was founded in 1889 as the original winery of the Marqués del Atrio group in Rioja. Now fifth-generation producers, the family has dedicated itself to cultivating, producing and selling great wine for more than a century.
Tasting note: The nose shows intense notes of ripe red fruits and elegant balsamic tones. Cherry, tobacco and leather on the palate, alongside ripe tannins, with a long and fruity finish.
