Wines
Sweetness: Sweet
Grape: Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc
Grape info: Famous for its role in both the sweet and dry wines of Bordeaux, Sémillon shares some of the aromatic quality of Sauvignon Blanc with a much richer body and more mellow acidity. When fully ripe, it produces fat, textured wines with fragrant, lemony notes, well suited to the production of dessert wines. Sauvignon adds youthful aromatics and a balancing acidity.
About: Jean-Christophe Barbe's vineyards are located in the commune of Preignac. He has thirteen hectares which all qualify for Sauternes status. The average age of the vines is 30 years. Château Delmond, however, is made from slightly younger vines, resulting in a fresher, lighter style, yet with the complexity and luscious feel of good Sauternes. The soils are mainly gravel and calcareous gravel.
Tasting note: Pale gold in colour with fresh floral and stone fruit aromas on the nose. Apricot, honey and peach mix with citrus peel and creamy flavours on the palate. Medium to full bodied with refreshing acidity to balance the lingering sweet finish.
Character: Apricot, honey, citrus peel
