Wines
Sweetness: Dry
Grape: Sauvignon Blanc
Grape info: Though indigenous to France, Sauvignon’s unique aromatic profile has seen it successfully transplanted all over the world to become the third most cultivated variety, behind only Chardonnay and Airén. Its enduring popularity is down to its distinctive, multi-layered combination of youthful, ‘green’ flavours matched with a keen acidity, capable of producing wines of real substance.
About: In Marlborough, classic Rapaura gravels absorb the sun’s warmth during the day, radiating back onto the grapes by moonlight, to create the highly aromatic flavours for which Marlborough is so highly reputed.
Made from grapes sourced principally from Opawa’s own vineyard on Rapaura gravel soils. Cool fermented partially in large oak barrels to add a textural element to the wine. Wines are aged for a short period on the lees prior to bottling.
Tasting notes: Exotic perfumes leap from the glass with vivacious aromas of fresh gooseberries, passionfruit and hints of fresh sweet herbs. The palate is refreshing and intense, displaying crisp citrus notes and passionfruit flavours, balanced with an incisive acidity.
Character: Gooseberry, passionfruit, dried herbs
