Alastair's pioneering story begins with that all-important first sip; a taste of best bitter that he stills remembers the flavour of to this day. Whilst the bitter was an important first milestone, it was a pint of ale from a cask in a Yorkshire pub that changed the game for Alastair, igniting his passion for beer. He remembers that the pale ale was brewed by Sean Franklin, the first English brewer to import American Cascade, a hop with incredible aromas of grapefruit and lychee.
In 1978 home-brewing is legalised in the USA for the first time since prohibition made it illegal in 1912. A raft of American brewers, sick of bland, boring and tasteless beer start to brew at home. Whilst working in the States, Alastair stumbles across American breweries setting up, and becomes fascinated by the forward-thinking kegged IPA's and pale ales, turning his hobby into a career.
In 1999, Alastair re-mortgages his own flat and with loans from friends and family, he's determined to make the new venture, Meantime, a success, and change the way people think about beer in the UK.
Over the past two decades, Meantime has helped to introduce drinkers to an array of different styles and innovations; from porters and IPA's to saisons and wheat beers, to their newest family member, Easytime Lager; an aromatic pilsner with notes of apricot and peach with a slightly lower ABV.
Today they still brew the highest quality beer at their brewery in Greenwich, packed full of flavour that everyone can enjoy, including;
London Pale Ale - British and American hops unite to make a sessionable pale ale that's packed with citrus flavour.
London Lager - East Anglian malt and Goldings hops combine for a crisp, refreshing lager that's full of flavour. A modern classic, straight from London's back garden.
Anytime IPA - Mosaic, Ekuanot, Cascade and Centennial hops create the ultimate session IPA. It's tropical refreshment from the heart of London.
Easytime Lager - a classic pilsner malt, Mosaic and Mandarina Bavaria hops combine for a peachy, aromatic twist. Easy-drinking, fresh and packed with flavour. It's lager, but not as you know it.
