Chapel Down's home is just outside the village of Tenterden in Kent where they have 16 acres under vine surrounding the winery on a 68-acre estate within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; in spring 2019 they are planting Britain's largest single vineyard at Boarley beside their existing vineyard at Kits Coty.
To top this off, Chapel Down also own the new Gin Works at Kings Cross a hub of flavour discovery and the London home of Chapel Down, and the soon to-be opened Curious Brewery in Ashford which will treble their current brewing capacity and allow Curious Brewery to brew millions of pints per year using just the very best ingredients sourced from their vineyards and the south of England.
New for 2019, and the third product of their premium spirit range is Chapel Down Pinot Noir Gin.
A highly aromatic gin produced with distilled Pinot Noir grape skins from the Chapel Down harvest which is then blended with English wheat spirit. Chapel Down believe this is the first-ever gin made from pinot noir grapes.
Mark Harvey, Managing Director of Chapel Down Wine and Spirits says, "Chapel Down Pinot Noir Gin has all the attributes to become a superstar product within our range.
Stunning to look at, the pink frosted bottle comes in the same D&AD design-awarded form as our Bacchus Gin and Chardonnay Vodka. And there is a subtlety of flavour which has surprised and delighted all who have tasted this Gin so far. Unique and delicious, a fantastic new addition to the family!"
Chapel Down Head
Winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire, has used his extensive winemaking expertise to
create a truly unique gin, saying, "Not
only have we made use of the skins, we've gone even further and have matched
the botanicals with the characteristics of the Pinot Noir grape.
The gin is therefore infused with juniper, coriander, dried red berries, rose buds, citrus fruits, rosehip, angelica and grains of paradise, all of which brilliantly reflect Pinot Noir.
The result is an aromatic pink gin with delicate aromas of red berries which perfectly balance the juniper led palate and refreshing citrus finish. This is our best yet."
Two perfect serves for Pinot Noir Gin:
Crush a handful of raspberries in a shaker and add ice. Add 25ml of Chapel Down Pinot Noir Gin, 20ml raspberry liquor and 15ml of lime juice. Shake well and strain into a tumbler. Top up with pink lemonade and garnish with a slice of lime, raspberries and rose petals.
