Witchmark Distillery is a thoroughly unique, authentic, and sustainable distillery, whose range of delicious gins recently joined our shelves as a taster of their superb spirits whilst we patiently wait for their whiskies to develop.

Located in Fonthill Bishop just west of Stonehenge, Witchmark will be one of the largest English Whisky distilleries. Excited to meet the newcomer from Nectar's local area - literally just down the road from us, some of our team met up with two of the founders Eddie and Jon to hear how the distillery is launching and what sets them apart from others.

On a journey to make the finest English Single Malts, "We are on track to be the most sustainable distillery in England (and possibly the UK). We are currently completing our B-Corp certification and are well on the way to scoring the highest of any distillery in England by some margin which is certainly testament to the time, effort, and resources we have spent on our sustainability credentials and ethical production practises that we have implemented," explains Jon.

Wiltshire's lush chalk downlands yield the very best ingredients to make the finest English single malts. From the barley growing in the surrounding fields to the pure water rising from beneath their feet, naturally filtered through limestone on its journey from the chalk aquifers below, Witchmark Spirits are made in harmony with local nature.

So what sets them apart from other spirits businesses?

  1. They will be one of up to 12 distilleries in the UK producing their own neutral grain spirit for gin and vodka, which will underline the authenticity of the brand and place Witchmark at the premium end of the market. Supporting the premium positioning for their whiskies when they launch.
  2. Uniquely, they are the only distillery (that they are aware of) that will be using the heads and tails from whisky production to produce gin and vodka.
  3. A scalable business, currently in the top 3 largest English whisky distilleries by production capacity - with plans to triple capacity in year 5.
  4. Expecting tens of thousands of visitors per year.
  5. Sustainability is at the core. Amongst a number of initiatives they have invested heavily in:
    • An impressive heat recovery system throughout the production processes.
    • Powering stills using Bio-LPG (a gas recovered from the process that makes eco road fuels from vegetable oils)
    • Zero effluent to drain.
    • Solar PV
    • Sustainable packaging - bottles are 100% recycled.
  1. An unassailable single origin grain-to-glass story for everything they produce through regenerative farming practises. The stunning barley fields are only meters from the distillery, and the bore hole delivering chalk filtered water is directly beneath them. The team will be using Britain's oldest working malthouse in Warminster (8 miles away) which allows them to keep their food mileage and carbon footprint very low.
  2. Authenticity, provenance, traceability, and heritage are all attributes that they take extremely seriously.

Come on the journey as the distillery launches with their range of flavoursome Gins here, and develops into one of the leading English Whisky distilleries over the next few years.

Enjoy a taste of the range here, and watch this space for more to come in 2025.
