Back in 2014, East London Liquor Company opened their distillery doors in Bow Wharf with a vision of getting great liquid into people's glasses. As the distillery celebrates their fifth birthday in July, they reflect on why they started, and what's to come.
Alex Wolpert founded East London Liquor Company to make great liquid locally and independently. "In an industry where people still associate the cost of the liquid with the quality, I wanted to create a brand that champions high-quality spirits that won't break the bank; from when we started through to today, no one in the UK is making gin on our scale and price-point. Five years in, our ethos has spread from East London to across the UK and to over 20 markets around the globe thanks to an incredible team both in the UK and abroad who share these values."
Batch 2 Negroni
Stir over ice, serve short. Garnish with an orange zest.
Reflecting the character of East London in their products is important for Head Distiller Tom Hills, with a range that includes their refreshing London Dry Gin, balanced Premium Batch No.1 Gin, herbaceous Premium Batch No.2 Gin, smooth British Wheat Vodka and seriously quaffable Demerara Rum. "Innovators and craftspeople are synonymous with East London, and our team are dedicated to creating products that stand out from the crowd: whether that's the gin and whisky we produce in the distillery, or the cocktail and food offering in our onsite bar and restaurant. Over the past five years we've created multiple award-winning spirits, released the first whisky in East London in over 110 years, and won awards for our brand home; we have a lot to celebrate for our birthday."
