Alois Lageder PInot Noir
Alois Lageder PInot Noir
Sweetness: Dry
Grape(s): Pinot Noir
Grape info: Few grapes can match Pinot Noir’s almost mythical ability to communicate terroir. Although its sensitivity makes it challenging to grow, it is the very thing that makes it capable of almost unrivalled nuance. For many, the best Pinot Noirs represent a summit of what is achievable in wine.
Info: Founded in 1823, Alois Lageder is a sixth-generation family winery based in Magrè, Alto Adige. The estate works with its own vineyards alongside around 60 long-term grower partners, all farmed organically or biodynamically.
Grapes are sourced from selected vineyards at 300–450 metres above sea level, planted on sandy, clay-rich and limestone soils. Fermented in stainless steel, the wine is matured for around 12 months in a mixture of large oak casks and concrete tanks.
Tasting note: Bright ruby red in colour, with aromas of red cherry, wild berries and subtle mineral notes. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, combining vibrant red fruit with gentle spice, fine-grained tannins and lively acidity, leading to a smooth, savoury finish.
Character: Cherry, red currant, raspberry
