Ch. Leret Monpezat Grand Vin Malbec
Ch. Leret Monpezat Grand Vin Malbec
Sweetness: Dry
Grape(s): Malbec
Grape info: Although Malbec is now more commonly associated with Argentina, its home is Cahors in the south-west of France. If proper ripeness can be achieved, wines can be deeply coloured, aromatic and have good aging potential.
Info: Château Leret Monpezat is a 36-hectare estate situated in the heart of Cahors, on a mix of plateau and valley terroirs alongside the Lot River, where clay-limestone soils and gravelly subsoils contribute to the structure and freshness of the wines. The estate is planted predominantly to Malbec, typically blended with a small proportion of Merlot, producing classically styled Cahors wines with depth, firm tannins and dark fruit character, shaped by careful vineyard management and sustainable practices.
The Grand Vin is aged between 12 and 18 months in a mix of new and old Allier oak barrels.
Tasting note: Aromas and flavours of blackcurrant, plum and vanilla, plenty of body and good length with powerful tannins, softened by well-integrated oak. Pair with poultry, cheese and rich foods.
Character: Plum, blackcurrant, vanilla.
