Meerlust Pinot Noir
Meerlust Pinot Noir
Sweetness:Dry
Grapes: Pinot Noir
Grape info: Few grapes can match Pinot Noir’s almost mythical ability to communicate terroir. Although its sensitivity makes it challenging to grow, it is the very thing that makes it capable of almost unrivalled nuance. For many, the best Pinot Noirs represent a summit of what is achievable in wine.
About: Meerlust Estate, steeped in heritage since 1756, is renowned for producing world-class wines. Guided by Hannes Myburgh, the 8th generation custodian, the estate continues its dedication to winemaking excellence.
Grapes were handpicked and selected in the coolness of morning before 100% of the whole bunches were manually transferred to tanks. Partial fermentation took place with careful pigeage twice daily before pressing directly into French oak for malolactic fermentation. 25% of the wine raised in a new 2500L French cask, with the balance being matured in 60% new Allier oak and 40% second-fill 300L casks.
Tasting note: Pronounced lifted floral perfume on the nose with a brooding and seductive dark berry fruit, musk, wild mushrooms and hints of iron, savoury richness and spice and an intense vibrant minerality. On the palate there are very pure Pinot fruit flavours on entry with red cherry and musk flavours coupled with fresh acidity. The wine has layered complexity with great elegance and finesse.
Character: Cranberry, clove, savoury.
