Grape info: Merlot’s soft, attractive fruitiness have seen it transplanted to almost every wine-growing country in the world. Approachable, with more mellow tannins than its traditional blending partners, Merlot tends towards flavours of plum jam, cherries and an occasionally herbaceous note.
About: Founded over a century ago, Viña La Rosa is located in one of Chile’s most exciting wine regions in the Cachapoal Valley: Peumo. Today, the traditions of its founders inspire a sustainable approach to viticulture and continue to inform a terroir-based mindset where respect for the environment is paramount.
Regular pumping-over during fermentation ensures proper extraction of fruit and colour. A proportion of the wine is micro-oxygenated, helping with tannin integration and softening the wine.
Tasting note: A youthful nose of red cherries, berries, violets and plums. Medium bodied with pliable tannins and a fruit forward palate of cherries and plum jam.
