Waterkloof Seriously Cool Chenin
Sweetness: Dry
Grape: Chenin Blanc
Grape info: Probably native to Spain, Grenache has been cultivated in the South of France for centuries, playing an especially important role in the blends of the southern Rhône Valley. Capable of producing substantial wines, Grenache typically shows aromas of ripe greengage, citrus and honeysuckle with an added floral dimension and characteristically high levels of alcohol.
About: Founded by Paul Boutinot in 2004, Waterkloof is a family-owned farm using organic practices. The farm is perched high up on the windswept Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay and The Atlantic Ocean. Living soils, naturally low yields and a long growing season help to produce naturally balanced grapes, reflective of their terroir.
A lengthy fermentation takes place over five months with wild yeasts before a light filtration and bottling.
Tasting note: A bright, vibrant style of Chenin with aromas of ripe citrus and stone fruit, white flowers and a hint of honey. Because of the longer alcoholic fermentation, the flavours are well integrated on the palate which ends with a crisp acidity.
Character: Stone fruit, citrus, honey
