Grape info: A native of the Loire Valley in France, Chenin can and is made in almost every conceivable style. South Africa has the largest area under vine in the world. Here, it’s prized for its ability to retain acidity in the heat, proving extremely useful in everything from blends to sparkling wines. Typically zesty and fresh with notes of honey, apples and straw.

About: Riebeek Cellars are a community of families located in the Riebeek Valley, pooling their resources in order to access the best quality land, fruit and winemaking technology. With a crucial, local knowledge of the land and its manifold challenges, they are able to bring the consumer the best Swartland has to offer.

A proportion of the juice was fermented using wild yeasts in French oak barrels for 19 days and remained in oak for a further six months before blending. The remaining juice was fermented, again with wild yeasts, in stainless-steel. The two components were then blended and bottles.

Tasting note: An elegant, aromatic and richly textured wine. The cooler evenings of the 2021 growing season, contributed to good natural acidity that balances out the texture and mid-palate. The nose offers delicate stone fruit aromas with hint of citrus with a flinty, layered finish.
