Wines
Sweetness: Dry
Grape: Nebbiolo, Barbera
Grape info: Individually, both grapes produce some of the finest wines of Piedmont but here, Nebbiolo’s light colour, muscular tannins and heady perfume are blended euphoniously with Barbera’s deep colour, characteristically low tannins, a bright fruitiness.
About: Harvested from the hills around Alba, in both the Langhe and Roero areas, both grape varieties are vinified separately in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. A percentage of Barbera is aged for one year in Slavonian oak, the remainder in stainless steel until final blending. After the blends are assembled the wine spends a further year in bottle prior to release.
Tasting note: Blackberry, cherry and plum on the nose with perfumed hints of violet and rose. The palate is rich and full-bodied with heady notes of incense, vanilla and sweet spice. Nebbiolo’s assertive tannins are tempered by Barbera’s incisive acidity in a harmonious and lengthy finish.
Character: Cherry, perfume, spice
